BETHESDA, MdThe National Cancer Institute (NCI) announced that
preliminary findings from two long-awaited breast cancer studies are
expected to be made available April 15 on the American Society of
Clinical Oncology (ASCO) website (www.asco.org).
The two NCI-sponsored studies address the effectiveness of high-dose
chemotherapy and autologous bone marrow or stem cell transplants in
the treatment of breast cancer. NCI said more fully analyzed data
from the two studies would be presented at the ASCO meeting in
Atlanta, May 1518, along with results from two similar European studies.
NCI made its announcement after a meeting with researchers, ASCO
representatives, and patient advocacy groups called to determine when
reliable data could be released.
