NEW YORK--Dr. David W. Golde has been appointed Physician-in-Chief
of Memorial Hospital, Dr. Paul Marks, president of Memorial Sloan-Kettering
Cancer Center, announced. Dr. Golde succeeds Joseph V. Simone,
MD, who is to become clinical director for the Huntsman Cancer
Institute, Salt Lake City.
Dr. Golde was head of the Cancer Center's Division of Hematologic
Oncology, Department of Medicine, as well as head of the Laboratory
of Molecular and Cellular Hematology at the Sloan-Kettering Institute.
He is renowned for his contributions to the understanding of normal
and leukemic blood cell growth. His demonstration that certain
white blood cells produce colony-stimulating factors in humans
laid the groundwork for the isolation of these factors.
