NEW YORK--The Leukemia Society of America has launched First Connection,
a pilot program for helping newly diagnosed leukemia patients
and their families receive counseling and information in the initial
hours after diagnosis. Patients will be visited by a specially
trained peer volunteer who has gone through a similar experience.
Funded by a grant from Roche Labs, this free service will be offered
in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Columbia, SC, Birmingham, Charlotte,
and St. Louis.
