New Review Flunks Most States in Tobacco Prevention Funding

WASHINGTON—Only 17 states have committed substantial funds from the tobacco settlement to tobacco prevention and cessation programs, according to a new report released by the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, and American Lung Association. Only 6 of the 17—Arizona, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Mississippi—have met or exceeded the minimum spending recommended by the CDC—20% to 25%.
