BETHESDA, MdNIH plans a consensus development conference to assess
the most recent data on the efficacy of mammography in screening
women age 40 to 49 for breast cancer. The agency plans to convene the
conference on January 21-23, 1997, on the NIH Bethesda campus.
The consensus panel will consider data published since the National
Cancer Institute's 1993 International Workshop on Screening for
Breast Cancer. This will include a review of an unpublished meta-analysis carried out by Swedish cancer researchers.
