About the Activity

This activity is based on review articles in the journal ONCOLOGY. It is developed from an identified educational need for information about practical management issues in the practice of medical, surgical, and radiation oncology. This activity has been developed and approved under the direction of Beam Institute.

 

Learning Objectives

 

  • Review the results of clinical trials testing inhibitors of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) against rectal cancer.
  • Discuss the results of clinical trials testing perioperative chemotherapy and postoperative chemoradiotherapy in gastric cancer patients.
  • Consider the incidence of and various approaches to treating follicular and diffuse aggressive lymphomas in the elderly and particular considerations for treating this patient population.
  • Describe various modalities now being used in the neoadjuvant treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma, the reasons that these techniques are attempted, and future therapeutic possibilities for this disease.

This activity targets physicians in the fields of oncology and hematology.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Countinuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of Beam Institute and The Oncology Group. Beam Institute is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

 

Credit Designation

The Beam Institute designates this educational activity for a maximum of 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits(s)TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
