At its 15th Annual Human Services Award Dinner in New York, Cancer Care, Inc, honored Cokie Roberts with its Regulus Award for members of the media, Carol Webb of Ortho Biotech with its Human Services Award, and H. Frank Doroff of Bloomingdale’s with its Fashion Leadership Award.
In accepting the award, Ms. Roberts praised Cancer Care for its many supportive services to cancer patients and their families. Commenting on the difficulty she and her family encountered in trying to obtain information about her sister’s cancer, Ms. Roberts especially praised Cancer Care’s many educational efforts.
Cokie Roberts is a co-anchor of the ABC News program, "This Week," and a special correspondent for ABC News. She is also a news analyst for National Public Radio and was the congressional correspondent there for 10 years.
H. Frank Doroff, who lost his wife to cancer, knows first-hand the toll that cancer exacts on individuals and their families. In memory of his late wife, Mr. Doroff, executive vice-president and general merchandise manager for ready-to-wear of Bloomingdale’s, worked enthusiastically to promote the Cancer Care Award Dinner and thus enable Cancer Care to inaugurate the Kate Doroff Memorial Fund.
Mr. Doroff began his career in retailing in 1972 and served previously as chairman of Bonwit Teller as well as chairman of Federated and Allied Merchandising Service.
In presenting the Cancer Care Human Services Award to Carol Webb, President of Ortho Biotech, Diane Blum, Executive Director of Cancer Care called Ms. Webb and Ortho Biotech "a loyal friend and generous supporter who has made significant contributions to the fight against cancer."
Ms. Webb’s background includes a degree in biology, training as a zoologist, and an early career as a science teacher. She joined Ortho Biotech, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, in 1987 as product director and rapidly advanced to assume the position of president in 1994. In addition to her responsibilities at Ortho Biotech, Ms. Webb serves on the Board of Directors of the Biotechnology Industry Organization, the Board of Trustees of the Oncology Nursing Foundation, and the Biotechnical Council of New Jersey, as well as on the Advisory Board of the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program and the Board of Governors of Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center.
