WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa--The Medicines Control Agency, the regulatory agency for the United Kingdom, has granted a product license for the marketing of Ethyol (amifostine), manufactured by U.S. Bioscience, Inc.
Ethyol is a selective cytoprotective agent indicated for the reduction of neutropenia-related infection resulting from use of the combination of cyclophosphamide(Drug information on cyclophosphamide) (Cytoxan, Neosar) and cisplatin(Drug information on cisplatin) (Platinol) in patients with advanced ovarian carcinoma.
Approval of ethyol in this country suffered a set back when an advisory committee failed to recommend it to the FDA.
