A diminished quality of life (QOL) is common in Hodgkin lymphoma survivors, sadly. How long does that negative consequence of this condition persist? QOL continues to decline even after a decade, particularly in those who developed cardiopulmonary complications. These authors urge a more concerted effort to limit late effects of Hodgkin lymphoma treatment.

Based on various studies, it's estimated that three-fourths of follicular lymphoma patients return to normal function one year after undergoing hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT). Yet when QOL was compared in HCT patients versus those who had standard therapy without autologous stem cell transplant, the HCT patients had the worst QOL, according to new research out of Germany. In an accompanying commentary, U.S. clinicians offer some perspective on HCT in follicular lymphoma, calling it a “complex and dynamic process with significant physical, social and mental consequences.”
