Genentech Files sBLA for Avastin for First-Line NSCLC Treatment

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO—Genentech Inc. has submitted a supplemental Biologics License Application (sBLA) to FDA for bevacizumab(Drug information on bevacizumab) (Avastin) in combination with platinum-based chemotherapy for first-line treatment of advanced, non-squamous, non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The company has requested priority review on the submission. In a phase III trial (E4599) in patients with locally advanced, metastatic, or recurrent NSCLC, Avastin plus paclitaxel(Drug information on paclitaxel) and carboplatin(Drug information on carboplatin) improved overall survival by 25%, compared with chemotherapy alone.
