Genentech Seeks Expanded Use of Avastin in Breast Cancer

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif—Genentech has submitted an application to the FDA for expanded use of bevacizumab(Drug information on bevacizumab) (Avastin) in combination with taxane chemotherapy for treatment of chemotherapy-naïve recurrent or metastatic breast cancer. Phase III data showed that patients who received bevacizumab in combination with paclitaxel(Drug information on paclitaxel) had a 52% reduction in risk of disease progression or death, compared to those who received paclitaxel alone.
