New Research Facility at Hopkins

February 1, 2000

BALTIMORE—Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions has dedicated its new $59 million cancer research facility, named The Bunting Family - The Family of Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Building after the Baltimore philanthropists who donated $20 million toward its construction. The facility contains the laboratories of more than 400 cancer researchers and staff.

The Bunting - Blaustein Building stands across the street from the new Weinberg Building that houses Hopkins’ comprehensive clinical cancer services [see ONI Dec. 1999, page 11].

“By gathering leading cancer investigators under one roof, the new facility will help us build more quickly upon our past successes and advance treatments more effectively,” said Martin D. Abeloff, MD, director of the Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Architects for the 10-story, 122,000 net square foot building were HDR Architecture Inc. in association with Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership.
