NCI Awards Cancer Trials Support Unit Contract to Westat Corp.

March 1, 2000

ROCKVILLE, Md—The NCI has awarded the contract to develop and implement the Cancer Trials Support Unit (CTSU) to Westat Corporation (Rockville, Md), a health and social sciences research organization. Westat will work with the Coalition of National Cancer Cooperative Groups and Oracle Corporation’s Health Informatics Consulting Practice.

The project’s goals are to streamline and centralize some regulatory and administrative tasks to allow the cancer cooperative groups to concentrate resources on the design and conduct of trials; facilitate access for the general public and health care providers interested in participating in clinical trials; and develop a simplified process for enrolling patients in clinical trials using the CTSU as the single point of entry.
