This systematic review of the literature compares the effects of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors alone, or in combination with antipsychotics, compared with antipsychotics alone or placebo plus antipsychotics in the treatment of schizophrenia. The main results: an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor plus an antipsychotic showed benefit over an antipsychotic plus placebo in terms of mental state, cognitive domains, and tolerability.
