Triple-Negative Breast Cancer
CONFERENCE REPORT Cancer Network presents exclusive coverage of the 30th Annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference. We speak with nationally recognized breast cancer specialists and bring you their insights into the optimal multidisciplinary management of patients with breast cancer and the application of innovative approaches to practice. • Treatment Combinations for HER2-Postive Breast Cancer REVIEW ARTICLE Elgene Lim, Nancy U. Lin; ONCOLOGY Vol. 26 No. 7 This review will focus on the breast cancer subtypes with the highest incidence of breast cancer brain metastases and will characterize differences in the clinical behavior of brain metastases that arise from these different subtypes. • Tumor Biology Trumps Anatomy in Breast Cancer Brain Metastases • Brain Metastasis in Breast Cancer: Last Barrier to the Cure? REVIEW ARTICLE Carey Anders, Lisa A. Carey; ONCOLOGY Vol. 22 No. 11 This review will focus on the molecular and clinicopathologic features, epidemiology and risk factors, prognosis, and current and future therapeutic strategies for patients diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer, including a brief discussion of intracranial disease. • What We Know and Issues to Be Resolved RESEARCH REPORT Anna Azvolinsky Researchers have identified a marker of DNA damage that may be able to predict a patient’s response to platinum-based chemotherapy agents such as cisplatin and carboplatin. The marker identified by researchers—telomeric allelic imbalance—has the potential to predict whether a patient with triple-negative breast cancer will respond to platinum-based chemotherapy. RESEARCH REPORT Anna Azvolinsky Sixteen percent of all breast cancers are triple-negative breast cancers. Researchers in Canada have sequenced and analyzed over 100 triple-negative breast tumors at the time of diagnosis, the first in-depth genomic analysis of this heterogeneous breast cancer subtype. • Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Characterized in Younger Breast Cancer Patients REVIEW ARTICLE Elizabeth A. Comen, Mark Robson; ONCOLOGY Vol. 24 No. 1 This review will examine the current understanding of PARP inhibition as a treatment for breast cancer, ongoing clinical trials, and future directions for this new approach. • Development of PARP Inhibitors: An Unfinished Story • PARP Inhibitors: What We Know and What We Have Yet to Know
Management of a Patient With Inflammatory Breast Cancer
Ginny Mason, RN, BSN1
, July 1, 2008
Two years after her first mammogram the patient, EC, noticed swelling and skin changes in one breast. A bone scan, chest and abdomen CT, and PET scan were negative for metastatic spread, staging the cancer at IIIB.

SABCS: Using Molecular Assays for Breast Cancer in the Clinic
Antonio Wolff, MD1
, December 4, 2012
To kick off SABCS 2012, we discuss the use of molecular testing for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer patients in the clinical setting with Dr. Antonio Wolff of the Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University, one of the presenter's during the "Practical Use of Molecular Profiling" session at this year's symposium.
MBCC: Emerging Therapies for Triple-Negative Breast Cancer
Joyce O’Shaughnessy, MD1
, March 12, 2012
Triple-negative breast cancer is aggressive, has a high rate of metastases, and carries a poor prognosis. Dr. Joyce O’Shaughnessy, who will be presenting at the Miami Breast Cancer Conference, discusses an overview of new therapies for triple-negative breast cancer.
May 3, 2013 Platinum-based chemotherapy may be the best bet for thwarting aggressive triple-negative breast cancer, according to a preliminary study.
