Neonate With a Soft, Yellowish-Colored Plaque on the Temple

A neonate is noted to have a soft, yellowish-colored plaque on the temple. The mother's pregnancy was uneventful, and Apgar scores at delivery were satisfactory. The baby is seemingly healthy. There is no meaningful history of cancer in either the maternal or paternal families.

What advice might you give to the extremely worried parents? Pick the best choice.

A. This is a benign nevus sebaceous of Jadassohn (low risk of basal cell carcinoma development). Observation is recommended.
B. This is a benign nevus of Jadassohn (high risk of developing infantile SCC). Excision is recommended.
C. This is a classic morphology for leukemia cutis. A bone marrow specimen should be obtained immediately.
D. This lesion represents metastatic neonatal retinoblastoma. The prognosis is grim.
